(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Homeland Security Bureau, arrested a male for possessing a hoax bomb and displaying it inside a restaurant.
According to investigators, a patron at the restaurant observed the subject handling a threaded metal pipe wrapped with black tape, a red cap, and battery wires. The subject than removed a laptop computer and a metal box with electrical wires from his bag. The patron exited the restaurant and immediately informed the authorities of his observations. MDPD Kendall District officers responded to the scene and took the subject into custody. MDPD bomb technicians along with Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents, responded to the scene, destroyed the device and determined it was a hoax. The subject was arrested and charged accordingly.
