Homicide Cold Case Arrest

Miami-Dade Police Department Investigators Solve a Murder Case That Occurred Almost Three Decades Ago

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Homicide Bureau has made an arrest on a murder that occurred on March 2, 1990.

Almost three decades have passed since the victim, a restaurant owner, was shot and killed while walking near his place of his business, located at 7121 NW 35 Avenue.  Upon MDPD uniformed officers arriving at the midafternoon shooting, they discovered Lucio Leon had been shot multiples times and robbed in the parking lot of his restaurant named, "Tuyo y Mio."  At the time, investigators gathered all evidence, to include blood inside the abandoned getaway vehicle, which was recovered in the vicinity of the crime.  As the years passed and scientific advancements in DNA analysis were developed, a DNA profile of the subject, Alexe Nodal, was matched to the blood recovered inside the subject vehicle in 1990. Investigators from the MDPD Homicide Cold Case Squad continued to follow all leads, ultimately locating and charging Nodal with the murder of Lucio Leon.

The collaborative efforts of the Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau and the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office exemplifies our continued commitment to victims and their families.

The investigation continues.
