The Miami-Dade Police Department Homicide Bureau is working with the City of Doral Police Department to investigate the disappearance of Liliana Moreno and her 9 year-old daughter Daniela.  Investigators continue to follow all leads and are not discarding the possibility of foul play.  The investigation has led detectives to a warehouse located in Medley.  The evidence that may be found in or around the warehouse is unknown at this time. Detective began a search in the area of N.W. 138 Street & Okeechobee Road and utilized all of its available resources to include assistance from the City of Hialeah Police Department, K-9 Unit. The extensive search continued until sundown and the search was suspended until tomorrow. Details regarding the time and location for the search is forthcoming.

If anyone has any information regarding this investigation or the whereabouts of Ms. Moreno and her daughter they are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.

UPDATE #1: As investigators continue to work around the clock in the search for the missing mother & daughter, they gathered information that led them to believe that Mr. Gustavo Castano may be planning to harm himself.  For the safety of Mr. Castano, investigators immediately issued a countywide B.O.L.O. (be on the lookout).  Detectives that were in the area of N.W. 138 Street and Okeechobee Road searching for the missing persons, located the pick-up truck mentioned in the radio transmission.  As the officers approached the vehicle, they observed Mr. Castano sitting inside the vehicle threatening to harm himself with a knife.  Detectives immediately intervened and were able to remove Mr. Castano from the vehicle.  Mr. Castano did sustain self-inflicted wounds and was transported to Kendall Regional Trauma Center where he is listed in stable condition.  The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.  Investigators continue to follow all leads and are utilizing all necessary resources in the search for the missing mother and daughter.  We continue to seek the assistance of the community in the search and if anyone has any information regarding this case, is urged to call Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).

UPDATE #2: According to investigators, as they approached the vehicle, Mr. Castano grabbed a box cutter and placed it to his neck.  Once the detectives observed Mr. Castano begin to cut his neck, they immediately broke the passenger window and utilized an electronic control device to take control of him and cease his attempts to commit suicide.  Mr. Castano then grabbed a box that was located inside of the truck and attempted to raise it as a shield to deflect the prongs from the electronic control device.  As a result, one of the prongs struck Mr. Castano in the eye.  Mr. Castano was then able to be restrained and transported by Fire Rescue to Kendall Regional Trauma Center.
