(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Town of Miami Lakes is investigating a shooting that occurred at the above listed location.  According to investigators, the subject, Alain Romero who is a known vagrant in the area, was behaving aggressively with patrons throughout the morning and the police was summoned to respond.  Romero then approached Maury Hernandez, a retired deputy, had a verbal altercation and attempted to assault him.  He then turned his aggression towards the toddlers and infant who were at the same table, at which point Hernandez and Romero had a physical altercation and shots were fired striking Romero.  Uniform units arrived on the scene and discovered Romero suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  He was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center where he is listed in stable condition.  No other injuries were reported.
