(Miami-Dade County, FL) --  

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is investigating a police involved shooting that occurred at the above listed location.  According to investigators, the City of South Miami Police Department was conducting an investigation regarding a theft that occurred earlier this week.  Officers confronted a subject at SW 66 Ave and 80 Street where a physical altercation ensued and the subject attempted to run over the officers.  The subject fled the scene and was pursued by City of South Miami Police officers.  Miami-Dade Police Department officers responded to a request for assistance in apprehending the subject.  During the pursuit, an altercation at SW 68 Avenue and SW 21 Street resulted in shots fired.  The subject was struck and expired on scene.  The officers involved were unharmed. 

Update #1:  The decedent has been positively identified and his information is listed above, however, he has not yet been confirmed as the subject involved in the jewelry store theft.
