(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department's, Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a police-involved traffic accident at the address listed above. According to detectives, an undercover officer on routine patrol observes a BMW which matches the description of a vehicle listed on a BOLO. A records check on the vehicle's tag reveals that the tag is expired and the owner of the vehicle has an outstanding bench warrant. The officer activates his emergency lights and conducts a traffic stop at SW 79 Ct and SW 72 St to further investigate. As the officer wearing police gear and a vest marked "POLICE" approaches the vehicle, the subject vehicle backs up, attempts to strike the officer, then flees. The officer then pursues the subject vehicle. As both vehicles are heading northbound on SW 87 Avenue, a second unmarked police vehicle (white van) blocks the intersection at SW 87 Ave and SW 56 St for public safety. The subject vehicle rear-ends the white van. The BMW is then redirected from the impact and strikes a Honda CRV that is stopped westbound on SW 56 St and then comes to a stop when it strikes a coral wall on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The officer in the unmarked, white van was transported to Baptist Hospital for further evaluation but suffered only minor injuries. The subject is in custody and is being processed.
