(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating a police-involved shooting. According to detectives, at approximately 1:20 a.m., shots were fired in the area of SW 74 Ave and 8 Street. An off-duty officer that lives in the area went outside to investigate the source and observed three, white males in a small boat in the canal. He advised dispatch via radio and requested units respond to the area. Upon responding officers' arrival, the subjects fled in the boat and a pursuit ensued. Aviation was requested and responded to assist. During the pursuit, as the subjects were fleeing, they shot at officers who had taken tactical positions on the bridges, and several officers returned fire. The subjects surrendered in the area of SW 112 Ave and 69 St, Snapper Creek Canal, and were taken into custody. One of the subjects was treated and released on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for a minor injury, possibly as the result of a graze. No officers were injured during the incident. Detectives did recover a firearm from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
