Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) Pursues Armed Carjacker (Update #1)

Assisting K-9 Units Apprehend


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

 

Miami-Dade Police Robbery detectives are investigating a carjacking that occurred at the above listed location.  According to detectives, the victim was seated in her parked vehicle when she was approached by the subject, armed with a semi-automatic firearm.  The subject ordered the victim from her vehicle, before stealing it and fleeing. 

At approximately 7:00 p.m. this evening, Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) detectives located the vehicle, still being driven by the subject.  When RID detectives attempted to stop the vehicle, the subject fled, leading detectives on a short vehicle pursuit.  The pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle traffic crash on State Road (SR) 826 at approximately N.W. 14th Street.  During the traffic crash, the subject abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot.  A perimeter was immediately established and the subject was subsequently apprehended by a K-9 unit.  He was treated on the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) for dog bite(s).  Several drivers involved in the traffic crash on SR 826 suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene by MDFR.

The investigation remains active/ongoing.   

UPDATE #1: The subject has been listed above and charged with Armed Robbery Carjacking w/a Firearm.
