Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Homicide Bureau detectives are investigating a police-involved shooting. According to detectives, a MDPD uniform patrol officer was on a traffic stop when she was suddenly attacked by a pedestrian, pushing a grocery cart on the roadway. The subject began throwing large pieces of concrete at the officer, striking the officer's patrol cruiser multiple times. The officer discharged her firearm, striking the subject's leg.
The subject then fled from the scene in a northbound direction on N.W. 22nd Avenue and was subsequently apprehended. He was transported to a local hospital and treated, before being released back into police custody.
During the violent confrontation, a large crowd began to gather on the corner of 56th Street & N.W. 22nd Avenue. The crowd was screaming obscenities at the officer while growing larger and becoming more aggressive. When additional officers arrived to assist in crowd control, a subject in the crowd released his large, aggressive dog on the officers. The dog attacked an officer, biting him in his abdominal area. The dog was shot & killed. The owner of the dog was apprehended and remains in police custody.
The investigation remains active/ongoing.
