The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) is investigating a police-involved shooting.  According to investigators, detectives from MDPD's Airport District were at the listed residence conducting an investigation that originated at the Miami International Airport (MIA).  When detectives responded to the listed location, they located the subject of the investigation, who was armed.  A confrontation ensued, during which shots were fired.  The subject was shot multiple times and subsequently transported to the Trauma Center at Kendall Regional Medical Center where he died.

A ballistic vest was also recovered in the subject's possession.

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE #1:  The decedent has been positively identified and is listed above.

UPDATE #2:  During the course of the investigation, additional details have been revealed and are listed below:

The decedent was a [subcontracted] unarmed security guard at a private facility located on MIA property.  Detectives had probable cause to arrest him in connection with an aggravated battery investigation where the victim was transported to a local hospital due to the injuries he (victim) sustained.  During the confrontation at the decedent's residence, the decedent was in possession of a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic firearm which he raised at detectives, forcing them to fire.  He possessed a concealed carry permit for said firearm.

The detectives (2) involved in the shooting are both veterans, each with over 23 years of service with MDPD.
