Traffic Fatality (Update #2)

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit continues to investigate a fatal crash that occurred at Miami International Airport. According to investigators, the bus driver was not familiar with the surrounding areas of the airport and mistakenly entered the airport. The driver attempted to enter the lower concourse and the bus did not meet the height requirements causing the bus to impact the overpass. Responding Miami-Dade Police units immediately began to remove injured passengers through a window until Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units arrived. One passenger was pronounced deceased on the scene and a total of thirty-one (31) passengers were transported to local hospitals with injuries. A second passenger succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The driver sustained minor injuries and is being interviewed by investigators.

UPDATE #1:

The deceased passengers and driver have been identified and are listed above. Investigators have also confirmed that the bus was chartered by a congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and was headed towards West Palm Beach for an assembly. No charges have been filed at this time.

No further information will be available for release at this time.

An additional passenger has died at Jackson Memorial Hospital (JMH). She has been identified and is listed above.
