Missing Person/Diver

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Missing Persons Unit is investigating an incident involving a missing diver.  According to investigators, a group of friends were approximately 3 ½ miles off the coast of Key Biscayne on a diving trip.  The diver jumped into the water and missed the lifeline rope and the strong currents pulled him away from the boat.  As the boat Captain turned the boat around in attempts to rescue the diver, they lost sight of him.  The distress signal was transmitted over marine radio and multiple law enforcement agencies immediately responded to area to begin the search.  Due to low visibility, local and state law enforcement suspended their search. The U.S. Coast Guard will utilize their cutter, which is equipped with the proper resources to conduct a night search, to continue the search for the remainder of the night.

The search will resume at sunrise.  Information will be provided as it becomes available.
