Abduction (UPDATE)


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Missing Persons Unit is investigating a possible child abduction that was witnessed in the area of S.W. 57th Avenue and S.W. 40th Street.  According to investigators, a passerby noticed the trunk of a gray 2013 Chevy Impala open and with what appeared to be a child inside.  The vehicle was last seen traveling eastbound on S.W. 40th Street. 

Further information revealed the vehicle to be rented by Hernan E Daza-Novellino. 

Investigators continue to follow all leads and are seeking the assistance of the community in locating the child or vehicle.

 

An Amber Alert has been issued with the information.

 

UPDATE #1: The co-renter of the listed vehicle has been identified as Rita Di Frances Cantonio.

 

UPDATE #2: According to Miami-Dade Police Missing Person’s detectives, the child has been found safe & unharmed.  Detectives have made contact with both the driver of the vehicle, and the child.  Specific details regarding the incident that was witnessed on 57th Avenue & S.W. 40th Street are forthcoming.

 

UPDATE #3: According to MDPD Missing Person’s detectives, the driver of the vehicle is the father of the girl who was presumed to be abducted.  The father stated that his daughter lowered the back seat of the vehicle to gain internal access to the vehicle’s trunk, in order to retrieve a water bottle.  Once the vehicle came to rest at the intersection, the father opened the trunk, exited the vehicle, and retrieved the water bottle for his daughter.  He then re-entered the vehicle and traveled eastbound on S.W. 40th Street.

The father & child were located at a retail store in S.W. MDC.  They have requested privacy and will not grant interviews to the media.  

Local, State, & Federal officials effectively worked together to identify the whereabouts of this child.  The investigative tools utilized to locate the child are not available at this time.

All law enforcement officials involved would like to thank the media for their prompt assistance during this important matter.
