The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Homicide Bureau, is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred at the above listed location. According to investigators, officer(s) were on the scene of a shots fired call when officer #1 was confronted and shot by subject #1, who subsequently stole the officer’s marked police cruiser and fled the scene. A countywide BOLO (Be on the Lookout) was immediately issued. The subject(s) abandoned the stolen police cruiser, entered vehicle #1, and fled to N.W. 27th Avenue & 70th Street. Officers responded to the location where they exchanged gunfire with the subject(s). Subject #1 died on the scene and subject #2 was transported to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital was he was pronounced deceased.
Officer #1 has been identified as Saul Rodriguez, a 13-year veteran with MDPD.
Based on preliminary evidence, detectives have identified subject #1 as being responsible for an Armed Robbery that occurred at 2700 West Flagler Street, located in the City of Miami.
Officers’ #2 and 3 have been treated for their injuries and have since been released. Officer Rodriguez remains in stable condition.
