Police-Involved Shooting

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau, is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred at the above location. According to investigators, officers were dispatched to a disturbance call. When officers arrived, they were told by a family member that the subject was inside the residence acting irrational. The family member also told police that the subject was in possession of a firearm. Officers attempted to make contact with the subject but as they approached the residence they heard windows being smashed out and the subject threatened to shoot officers if they came closer. The officers established a perimeter and the Special Response Team (S.R.T.) was notified and responded along with hostage negotiators.
As negotiators attempted to establish a line of communication, the subject confronted one of the S.R.T members and shots were fired. The subject was observed fleeing up to the second floor and continued to barricade himself. After several hours of attempting to negotiate with the subject, the Special Response Team entered the residence and the subject was taken into custody without incident. Once in custody, it was discovered that the subject was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The subject was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  No officers were injured.

This is currently an ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.
