(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is investigating a police involved shooting that occurred at the above listed location.  According to investigators, the officer was on his way home after completing his shift.  He observed two vehicles traveling northbound on I-75 at a high rate of speed.  The officer conducted a traffic stop on one of the vehicles. He exited his vehicle and signaled the other vehicle to stop.  The subject pulled into the emergency lane and slowed down as he approached the officer's vehicle.   The subject drove towards the officer, causing the officer to discharged his firearm striking the subject.  The subject was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center where he underwent surgery. The officer was not injured during the incident.
