Armed Robbery

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department, is investigating an incident that occurred inside a convenience store located at 1005 NW 79th Street. An altercation/dispute ensued between the four armed subjects at the listed business. Having observed the armed subjects, a concerned citizen called 911 believing a robbery of the business was imminent. A uniformed patrol sergeant from the Northside District arrived on scene and observed one of the subjects at the door with a handgun in his waistband. After a brief physical altercation with the sergeant, the subject was able to flee with his accomplice in a silver Ford Fusion. The fleeing vehicle was spotted Detectives from the Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) that were responding to the area. As the subjects fled, they fired on a RID detective striking his vehicle. As the fleeing subjects attempted to cross the intersection at NW 95th Street & 24th Avenue, they were involved in a traffic crash. The two subjects attempted to flee from there on foot however the driver was immediately apprehended at NW 95th Street & 24th Avenue and the passenger was apprehended at 2300 Block of NW 98th Street. During the incident, RID detectives returned fire but did not strike either of the subjects. Further investigation revealed that during the original dispute, one of the subjects that fled in the vehicle snatched a chain from around the neck of one of the other subjects. Due to this new information, the Robbery Bureau has taken over the ongoing investigation. There is no further information available at this time. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
