Following an armed carjacking on Wednesday, July 15, detectives from the Miami Dade Police Department’s Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) and Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), collaborated in an operation which resulted in three subjects being taken into custody, the seizure of a .40 caliber Glock firearm and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
The carjacking took place as the victim left his home and exited from his vehicle to close his front gate. He was accosted by two of six subjects traveling in a black SUV and a white SUV. Brandishing firearms, the men demanded the victim’s vehicle and although he complied, they struck him with the firearms, causing lacerations to his face.
The two subjects then fled in the victim’s car, followed by the other subjects (who were also armed) in the black SVU and white SUV.
Later in the day, Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) detectives observed the victim’s vehicle in the area of NW 72nd Street and 14th Avenue. A foot chase ensued with RID detectives pursuing the subjects and RTCC detectives tracking their flight on live surveillance video. Using this technology, the RTCC detectives were able to direct their RID colleagues to the area where Tevin Bryant, Freddie Thornton and Delquan Pigatt were hiding. All three were taken into custody.
Detectives from the Robbery Bureau continue their investigations to determine the whereabouts of the other subjects involved in the carjacking.
The department is inviting media to a briefing regarding its use of technology in police work and the RTCC, today, Tuesday, August 11 at 10:00 a.m. sharp. The briefing will take place at MDPD Headquarters, located at 9105 NW 25 Street, Doral, Florida 33172.
The video that was used by RTCC to help apprehend the subjects is available on the FTP site under MDPD case number PD150715261256.
