Drive-By Shooting Injures 13 Year Old Girl


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

Thirteen-year-old Lazara Retana has been admitted to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds following a drive-by shooting in South West Miami-Dade. Her condition is described as critical but stable.

 

Detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department’s South District, who are investigating the incident, say that subjects travelling in a red Chevy Astro van, opened fire on a group of people standing in front of residences on SW 115 Court. The subjects then fled north.

 

Family members took Retana in their own vehicle to try and find a hospital but were intercepted by police officers at South Dixie Highway and SW 168 Street, where Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported her to Nicklaus Children's Hospital.

UPDATE #1: Investigators have advised that through further investigation the subjects vehicle is described as dark in color Ford Expedition or Chevrolet Suburban.
