The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Robbery Bureau is investigating an armed carjacking and shooting in Miami-Dade last night, which resulted in two men being hospitalized and one subject being taken into custody. A search is on for two additional subjects.
The sequence of events, as outlined by investigators, began with the two victims meeting the three subjects at an abandoned residence at 25356 S.W. 135 Court Tuesday night, for reasons yet to be determined. Once at the property, three black males confronted the victims with firearms and stole their property. One of the victims was shot and the other pistol whipped. The subjects fled in the victim’s rental vehicle, a burgundy 2010 Ford Taurus; tag 131LAY.
A BOLO (Be On The Lookout) was issued for the stolen vehicle. Officers from MDPD’s South District observed a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The driver refused to stop and fled. He was chased to an area in the city of Coral Gables, where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers, K-9 and aviation units saturated the area and subsequently took the driver, later identified as 17 Y/O Deandre Johnson, into custody.
Johnson was transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center and has since been charged with Grand Theft Auto, Fleeing and Eluding and Resisting An Officer Without Violence.
The two victims, who were transported to nearby hospitals, are listed in stable condition.
