The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a shooting involving two Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Robbery Intervention Detail (RID) detectives.
Investigators say around 12:30 p.m. MDPD’s RID detectives were following up on a carjacking investigation that led them to the area of SW 224 Street and SW 112 Avenue. There detectives spotted a white four-door Kia sedan matching the description of a car taken during a carjacking, and attempted to stop it. As the occupants in the vehicle attempted to elude officers, the vehicle made an abrupt right turn onto SW 116 Avenue where one of the passengers jumped out of the moving vehicle, brandishing a firearm and pointed it at detectives. A female detective discharged her firearm, and the subject fled on foot.
A short distance away, the driver and second passenger jumped out of the car and also fled on foot. One of the subjects, running in a northeastern direction, brandished a firearm at a responding detective who discharged his firearm striking the male subject. The second subject was caught and taken into custody with incident.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and transported a 16 year old male to Kendall Regional Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
Officers saturated the area and later located the subject who originally fled from police.
Two firearms were recovered.
