The Miami-Dade Police Department’s Robbery Bureau is seeking the assistance of the community in identifying and/or locating a man who robbed a cellphone store in southwest Miami-Dade on Sunday, July 10. Detectives believe the subject may have been responsible for several robberies and thefts from other cellphone stores stretching from Palm Beach County to southwest Miami-Dade County.
With respect to the July 10 incident, investigators say that shortly after noon a heavyset black male entered the telecommunications store at 7136 SW 40 Street, and engaged employees in conversation. Detectives now believe he was casing the layout of the business. He left and returned to the store approximately 15 minutes later, confronted a clerk, and in an aggressive tone implied that he had a weapon. He demanded that the clerk go the storage area at the back of the store and bring him cellphones.
While in the back of the store the clerk heard the alarm attached to the cellphone display in the front go off. He ran to the front and observed the robber fleeing in a black pick-up truck.
