The Miami-Dade Police Department's Robbery Bureau is seeking the assistance of the community in identifying and/or locating two men who assaulted and robbed a victim of $10,000 during a lottery scam.
Investigators say that, Cristina Font, was walking through the parking lot at 20821 South Dixie Highway on the afternoon of October 26, at about one in the afternoon, when she was approached by two subjects working in conjunction in an attempt to scam the victim of money. During the conversation, one of the subjects told the victim he had a winning lottery ticket but he was not a legal resident and so could not redeem the ticket. The subject then called by phone a third individual posing as a Florida lottery employee verifying the winning numbers. The subject then advised that he needed $40,000 as collateral while the victim cashed the lottery ticket. The victim then got into the subjects vehicle and went to her home and bank to retrieve a total of $10,000. The subject then stated they were going to cash the lottery ticket at a location in Homestead and while in route stopped at about SW 220 Street and 124 Avenue where one subject began to choke the victim while the second subject stole her purse. The subjects pulled the victim out of the vehicle and fled southbound on SW 124 Avenue.
Ms. Font suffered minor injuries during the incident.
