Police Involved Shooting (Non-Contact)

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

The Miami-Dade Police Department was involved in a non-contact police shooting. The incident occurred in southwest Miami-Dade involving officers of the Kendall District.

Investigators say that the officers conducted a records check of a tag attached to a Cadillac in the area of S.W. 40 Street & S.W. 82 Avenue. The records revealed the tag to be stolen. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle refused to stop. Miami-Dade Aviation Unit was immediately summoned to respond to assist the officers. The subject entered the parking lot of an apartment complex located at S.W. 83 Street & S.W. 72 Avenue, which led them to a dead end. As the officers approached the vehicle, the subject began pivoting the vehicle to make a U-turn, striking multiple parked cars in the process. The officers discharged their firearms and the vehicle then fled out of the parking lot and continued westbound on S.W. 84 Street. The officers immediately gave chase and the subject vehicle came to a stop at S.W. 72 Court. The subject then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident. Neither the officers nor the subject sustained any injuries.

Charges Pending.

Investigation Continues.
