Cargo Theft Arrest

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --

On Friday, November 4, 2016, after more than two weeks of surveillance and an undercover operation, detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department Cargo Theft Squad and detectives from the Airport District, arrested three men and charged them in connection with a conspiracy to steal a truck-load of cellular phones valued at $800,000.

Detectives say that during the course of an ongoing investigation, they obtained information about plans by the men to steal a box-truck loaded with cellular phones.

For several days the detectives conducted a surveillance operation, during which time the men were observed repeatedly following the targeted truck. Having determined the intentions of the suspects, an undercover officer posed as a deliveryman drove the truck to a business located at 6640 NW 22 Avenue, where the delivery was to be made. The undercover officer entered the premises, at which time the three subjects, who had been following the truck, attempted to steal the unattended box-truck, loaded with the cellular phones, using a copied key.

The subjects were subsequently arrested and charged with Stalking, Attempted Grand Theft of a Vehicle, Conspiracy to Commit Grand Theft Cargo, among other charges.

The Miami-Dade Police Department is seeking information on a 2007Honda Odyssey with a Miami Heat tag: L3AJP that fled the scene on the day of the arrests.  Additionally, anyone with information regarding the three subjects involved in this incident, please contact Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
