(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department announces the arrest of Rogel Morejon-Soto, who is responsible for a vehicle fire caused by illegally retrofitting a vehicle with fuel tanks containing gasoline.
Detectives say that on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, shortly before one in the afternoon, officers responded together with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue regarding a vehicle fire, located at 15355 SW 73 Terrace Circle. After several hours, the extensive fire of the unoccupied vehicle was extinguished. Investigators then were able to determine that the vehicle was illegally fitted with two 264 gallons steel caged plastic totes in the cargo hold. The vehicle was also equipped with the necessary fuel hoses, fuel nozzles and electric pumps used to transport and dispense voluminous amounts of fuel. Detectives say that typically a vehicle equipped in this manner is solely for the purpose of facilitating the theft, transport and sale of stolen fuel.
On today’s date, Rogel Morejon-Soto was arrested by detectives and charged with Arson and Possession of a Vehicle with Illegal Tank.
