The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) was involved in a non-contact police shooting. The incident occurred on the Palmetto Expressway and NW 74th Street involving officers of the Midwest District.
Investigators say, that prior to officers arriving, the subject was traveling in a Toyota Corolla on the southbound lanes of the expressway while shooting at vehicles. The subject lost control of his vehicle striking the center concrete barrier. He then turned his vehicle around going north on the southbound lanes where he once again lost control striking the side concrete barrier. Doral Police Department, Florida Highway Patrol and MDPD confronted the subject who was actively shooting at the officers. There was an exchange of gun fire where the subject then stopped shooting and officers were able to apprehend the subject without any further incident.
Two vehicles were struck from this incident and one victim, Mr. Enrique Jose Bendana, drove himself to Kendall Regional Hospital with a minor injury to the head due to debris.
