The Miami-Dade Police Department, Special Victims Bureau continues their investigation into the abduction of two young children and the shooting of their foster parent.
Uniformed officers from the Kendall District responded to a report of a female shot at a residence. Officers learned that the victim is a foster parent and that two young children were taken from the victim’s home by unknown subjects, a female and male. According to investigators, the subjects arrived at the home and the victim, Ms. Wendy Edmond, answered the front door. The subjects demanded to take the two children from the home. Ms. Edmond refused to relinquish custody of the children and a struggle ensued between Ms. Edmond and the subjects. The subjects were able to gain entry into the residence and shot Ms. Edmond multiple times. The subjects removed both children, who are siblings, from the home and fled in an awaiting white four door sedan.
Investigators continued to follow all leads and found the children inside a residence, located at 1193 NW 87 Street, in the company of their biological mother. The children were found safe and are in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. The biological mother, Candi Johnson, does not have legal custody of the children and criminal charges are pending. Investigators continue to search for all subjects involved.
Ms. Edmond was transported to Jackson South Hospital in stable condition.
The investigation continues.
Update #1: Please see attached arrest form listing formal charges for Candi Johnson. The male subject is still at large.
