Detectives from the Miami-Dade Police Department, South District are investigating a non-contact police involved shooting.
According to investigators, undercover detectives from the South District, observed a vehicle driving erratically through a residential neighborhood. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle did not comply. As the subjects continued to drive erratically in attempts to flee from the officers, they struck a civilian vehicle at the corner of SW 268 terrace and SW 134 Place. Officers immediately approached the accident scene, when the occupants from the vehicle that fled opened fire at the officers, and an officer returned fire. Officers apprehend two of the subjects on the scene and recovered two firearms. The third subject fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
The three occupants inside the civilian vehicle, a 35 year old female and her two children, were transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Baptist Homestead Hospital, where they were treated for injuries. They are expected to recover.
No one involved in this incident was struck by gunfire.
The investigation continues.
UPDATE #1: Subject #1 has been identified and charged accordingly. The male who was detained on scene was released after speaking to investigators. Officers, and the driver of the civilian vehicle have been identified and are listed above.
Subject #2 remains at large.
