The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a Miami-Dade Police Department police involved shooting.
According to investigators, the uniformed officer was part of a burglary saturation detail, when he approached a male at a nearby park. At some point thereafter, the male fled on foot and the officer ran after him. The foot pursuit concluded in the parking lot of the Spanish Villas Community. Sometime during the encounter the officer discharged his electronic control device. The subject, armed with a knife, lunged at the officer. The officer discharged his firearm striking the subject.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and determined the male deceased. The officer was not injured.
