The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a police involved shooting that resulted in one subject fatally wounded.
According to investigators, as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents attempted to make contact with the subject of a previously reported bank robbery, the subject fled on foot. The subject, who was armed with a firearm, forcefully stole someone's vehicle and fled the area. A police pursuit ensued and the subject drove to the City of Miami, where he committed a second armed carjacking. The subject then utilized the second stolen vehicle to continue to elude the officers. The subject stopped the vehicle in the area of NW 27 Avenue and NW 20 Street, fled on foot and jumped into the Miami River. Officers from the City of Miami Police Department (MPD) and Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) immediately established a perimeter and summoned a variety of resources to include Hostage Negotiators.
Hostage negotiators maintained an open line of communication with the subject in attempts to convince him to surrender. The subject then began to submerge himself several times, produced a firearm, and shots were fired. The subject was determined deceased by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. No injuries were reported.
