The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau is investigating a police shooting involving an officer of the Miami Beach Police Department that resulted in one subject fatally wounded.
According to investigators, the subject, who was driving a black BMW, crashed into a vehicle on 12th Street and Ocean Drive and fled westbound on the street. As the subject was fleeing from the crash, she struck another vehicle on Lincoln Drive. She then fled the second crash scene and struck a uniform officer who was dealing with bystanders. The impact caused the officer to be thrown in the air. Another officer then discharged his firearm, striking the subject. The subject then continued to travel westbound on 12th Street and struck a parked vehicle, where it came to a final rest on the 200 Block. The officer and the subject were transported to JMH Trauma Center, where the subject succumbed to her injuries. The officer is listed in stable condition.
The passenger in the subject's vehicle has been detained for questioning to determine his involvement, if any.
