The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a police involved shooting involving a Miami-Dade Police Department, Northside District Officer.
According to investigators, the officer was working an off duty assignment at the Walmart, located at 3200 NW 79th Avenue. While investigating a theft, the officer approached the subject in the parking lot. The subject produced a firearm and shot the officer multiple times. The officer returned fire, striking the subject. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and determined the subject deceased on the scene. The officer was taken to Jackson Ryder Trauma by another officer, and is expected to recover from his wounds.
The officer has been with the Miami-Dade Police Department for 6 years and 9 months.
