The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a police involved shooting that resulted in a man dead.

According to investigators, officers responded to an apartment complex in reference to a violent domestic dispute.  They were met by the subject's mother in the parking lot, who stated her son was under the influence of an unknown type of drug and was behaving violently.  The officers made contact with the subject and initiated a dialog in an attempt to peacefully resolve the situation.  During their conversation, the subject produced a firearm and opened fire at the officers.  The officers returned fire and tactically retreated from the apartment.  The Special Response Team (SRT) and Hostage Negotiators were summoned to respond to the scene.  After unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the subject, SRT gained entry into the apartment and discovered the subject unresponsive and suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s), inside of the closet.  Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the subject deceased on the scene.   One of the officers was treated and released on the scene for a minor injury.
