Traffic Crash


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a traffic crash involving a marked police vehicle.

According to investigators, vehicle #1, occupied by two MDPD officers was traveling southbound on S.W. 157 Avenue. Vehicle #2, driven by Jovary Hill, was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of S.W. 157 Avenue, when both vehicles collided head on. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and airlifted the driver of vehicle #1 to Jackson Memorial Ryder Trauma Center. The passenger of vehicle #1 and driver of vehicle #2 were transported to Jackson South Community Hospital. All parties involved are listed in stable condition.

Both officers have approximately one year tenure with MDPD.

Investigators suspect alcohol and/or drugs may have played a role in the crash.

The investigation continues.

Update #1: The officers involved in the traffic accident have been identified above. Officer Moreira has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home. Officer Babich remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.
