The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is investigating a police shooting involving Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) and North Miami Police Department officers, which resulted in the death of the subject and the wounding of an MDPD officer.
According to investigators, the North Miami Police Department received calls of a male walking in the area of West Dixie Highway and NE 119 Street, wearing what appeared to be a bullet proof vest while armed with a shotgun. Attempts were made to negotiate with the subject, resulting in shots being fired. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the officer to Ryder Trauma, Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition. The subject was pronounced deceased on the scene.
At this time, the FDLE investigation continues; however, preliminary information received thus far indicates that a shotgun and a bullet proof vest have been recovered from the scene.
