(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) received information that an individual sent out telephone messages stating that he wanted to raise havoc at the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU on Miami Beach.
The collaborative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Miami Beach PD, Bureau of Alcohol and Tobacco, Florida International University (FIU), and MDPD Homeland Security Bureau, led investigators to the identity of the subject as Oscar Aguayo, a Florida International University student. Investigators later learned that Mr. Aguayo was attending class on today's date. They met Mr. Aguayo at his classroom and detained him for questioning. FIU Police K-9 alerted while conducting a cursory search of Aguayo's vehicle. For safety precautions, MDPD Bomb Squad Unit responded to the scene, and after processing the vehicle it was deemed safe.
Investigators continue to question Mr. Aguayo, charges pending, if any.
