The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit, is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in two civilians critically injured.
Detectives say just before 6:30 p.m., a Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD), K-9 officer en route to a perimeter, traveled southbound on NW 57 Avenue in emergency mode in a marked police vehicle. A 2007 Audi A-4 traveling eastbound on West Flagler Street attempted to make a left turn on 57 Avenue, when it collided with the marked police vehicle. Investigators say the traffic control lights were out in all directions.
City of Miami Fire Rescue responded and transported the K-9 officer to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Audi who was critically injured and four passengers were transported to Ryder Trauma Center. Three minors were transported to Nicklaus Children Hospital; one minor was critically injured.
Detectives believe inclement weather may have been a contributing factor.
