(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department, Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of the passenger and injured the driver.
According to investigators, Robbery Intervention Detail detectives observed a black BMW traveling westbound on N.W. 79 Street. A records check of the tag revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen, at which time detectives initiated a traffic stop at N.W. 6 Avenue. As detectives approached the vehicle, the subject accelerated forward, striking the detective's vehicle. He then fled westbound on N.W. 79 Street at a high rate of speed, where he struck a civilian vehicle at N.W. 22 Avenue, and continued to flee southbound. The civilian vehicle, unaware that the subject was fleeing from police, began to follow the subject vehicle. The subject lost control of the BMW in the area of N.W. 71 Street, where he drove through a fence and into an open field. The vehicle overturned several times, ejecting the driver and the passenger. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported both to JMH Ryder Trauma Center. The passenger succumbed to her injuries at the hospital and the driver is listed in good condition. No other injuries reported.
