Industrial Accident


(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- 

The Miami-Dade Police Department, Homicide Bureau along with local, state, and federal agencies are investigating an industrial accident, that occurred on SW 109 Avenue and 8 Street at the Florida International University (FIU) pedestrian bridge.

According to investigators, at approximately 1:47 p.m., the pedestrian bridge that connects FIU to the City of Sweetwater across SW 8 Street, suddenly collapsed trapping vehicles underneath and injuring several people.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) responded and transported victims to Kendall Regional Medical Center.  Victim Navarro Brown succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Update #1: On March 17, 2018, at 5:40 a.m., MDFR along with construction crews, were able to extract vehicle #1, a gold jeep Cherokee from underneath the debris. The victim has been identified as Rolando Fraga Hernandez.   At 6:57 am Vehicle #2,  a white Chevy truck was extracted and the occupants have been identified as Oswald Gonzalez and Alberto Arias.

Update #2:  On March 17, 2018, at 5:12 p.m., MDFR along with construction crews, were able to extract vehicle #3, a Gray Toyota 4Runner from underneath the debris. The victim has been identified as Alexa Duran.

Update #3:  On March 17, 2018, at 8:35 p.m., MDFR along with construction crews, were able to extract vehicle #4, a white Ford F-250 pickup truck from under the debris.  The victim has been identified as Brandon Brownfield, W/M, DOB:  09/19/1978.
