Police Reserve and Auxiliary Officer Program FAQ

What is the difference between a Police Reserve Officer and a Police Auxiliary Officer?

Our Police Reserve Officers are Florida State Certified Police Officers who choose to work as volunteers in a sworn capacity in a variety of assignments within our Department.

Our Police Auxiliary Officers are employees of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue who are selected for the program to function as tactical medics under the supervisor of our Special Patrol Bureau.

What are the incentives of becoming a Police Reserve Officer?

The reasons for becoming a Police Reserve Officer with our agency are varied. Some do it to maintain their certification in the event a full-time sworn position within our agency or another agency becomes available. Some like the variety of assignments and mobility that an agency of our size provides. Some enjoy serving the public and selflessly giving to their community with the appreciation and gratitude of everyday citizens as the reward for choosing to perform this type of work. Some enjoy the camaraderie and to be a part of the legacy of policing that this profession uniquely offers to its members who serve in a sworn capacity. While the reasons are varied, our Police Reserve Officers work alongside our full-time officers and our held to the same standards.

How may I become a Police Reserve Officer?

We welcome "eligible to be certified officer" police reserve applicants to apply. Interested applicants should send an email to the Police Reserve Officer Program to see if applications are currently being accepted.
