Port of Miami to Welcome Volvo Ocean Race Competitor

The 70-foot Open Yacht PUMA Mar Mostro will dock at the Port of Miami to allow VIPs a sneak peek inside one of the contenders in the upcoming 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race, a 31,250 nautical-mile competition that will span the globe.

The PUMA Mar Mostro is the only American-made vessel competing that has an American skipper at the helm. The ship and crew will be conducting test-runs in open water to familiarize themselves with the South Florida coast for the competition.

The Volvo Ocean Race is an extreme professional sailing event that tests the ability and emotional dedication of a select few from around the world. The 2011-2012 edition of the race will kick-off this October in Alicante, Spain.

In anticipation of the arrival of the boats as they sail from Itajai, Brazil, to Miami on Leg 6 of the race, the Miami stopover team has started to shape the 14-day festival - Volvo Ocean Race Miami 'Beyond Water'.
