PortMiami #1 Port on the East Coast for Productivity and Performance
(MIAMI, November 19, 2014) – PortMiami has been ranked tops for Port Productivity and Performance in the 2014 edition of Top Ports in the United States published by the Journal of Commerce (JOC).
“This award recognizes PortMiami as a major global logistics hub in the Americas,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Congratulations to the entire PortMiami Team and dedicated port partners that include cargo terminals, stevedores, steamship lines, and International Longshoremen Association’s Local 1922 and 1416, as well as U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Coast Guard, among others. Solid partnerships and continued commitment to growing the port’s business allows Miami-Dade County to stay competitive and generate an economic impact of approximately $28 billion and more than 200,000 jobs a year.”
The JOC is among the most distinguished trade publications in the United States. In the November 2014 release of JOC Port Productivity data, PortMiami will be the recipient of the JOC Port Productivity Award for the second most productive port in the United States, and tops on the east coast, based on first-half 2014 data. The award stems from a global JOC Port Productivity Study of berth productivity at ports and terminals as defined by total container moves per hour between ship arrival and departure.
More than $1 billion of major infrastructure projects are transforming PortMiami. A number of large infrastructure projects — comprising one of the most ambitious improvement programs in its history — are providing customers with fast and efficient access to port facilities and new connections to markets worldwide.

PortMiami received “Number Two Port in the U.S. in Port Productivity” designation as a result of averaging an impressive 75 container moves per hour between ship arrival and departure. The Port will be honored with an award at the Journal of Commerce Port Performance Conference at the Newark Club, in Newark, N.J., on December 10, 2014.
