Vessel clearance at Miami-Dade County's Seaport Department explained
All ship clearance is at a federal level. The protocol requires for vessels to self-report to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Customs and Border Protection and the United States Coast Guard specified medical concerns and to await guidance from these agencies.

C-TPAT Certified
U.S. Customs and Border Protection certified PortMiami as a C-TPAT. C-TPAT is recognized as a worldwide supply chain security initiative and one of the most effective means of providing the highest level of cargo security. Thanks to C-TPAT certification at PortMiami cargo containers are processed faster, thus translating into substantial cost savings for our cargo terminal partners, freight forwarders, and trucking companies.

Radar Surveillance and Automated Vessel Identification System
The system consists of the integration of a coastal tracking system and state-of-the art radar technology. The coastal tracking system can detect ship-mounted transponders to identify and locate vessels by electronically exchanging data with nearby ships and Vessel Traffic Stations. The radar surveillance integrates both radar and automated vessel identification data to provide the highest level of surveillance at PortMiami. Pan-Tilt-Zoom Day/Night cameras are strategically installed at off-port locations to provide a wide-range visual of tracked targets. Additionally, the system is integrated into the Port’s Berth Planning System, where early arrivals and late departures are automatically posted when vessels traverse the entrance channel.

Video Management System
Conversion of the Port’s Analog CCTV system to a versatile digital video system designed for the high-end security market that provides high resolution video, sophisticated video analytics and real-time frame-rate performance, with the ability to change frame-rate, resolution and image quality according to schedules, or detected events.

Terminal Operators with AQUA Lane Certification
The Seaboard Marine terminal at PortMiami was recently certified by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as part of its new Marine Port Terminal Operator designation, known as the AQUA Lane Program. This program allows Seaboard Marine to apply for Advanced Qualified Unlading Approval to allow vessels and cargo to be pre-cleared by CBP before the arrival of the ship. Under this program, PortMiami’s Seaboard Marine Terminal can begin discharging and loading containers the moment the vessel reaches the terminal.
