    Environmental Awareness

The Port has implemented procedures that integrate pollution prevention and waste reduction. It conserves natural resources by reusing and recycling materials, purchasing recycled materials and products that do not adversely affect the environment, and that can be reused, recycled and disposed of in a safe manner.

The Port also continually reviews, improve and provide training opportunities on the Port’s best management practices; additionally Port staff heighten its awareness of and keep a watchful eye on the environmental concerns of the community.

In order to form partnerships between the trade and environmental community, and accomplish ecological improvement and education efforts in the larger realms of Biscayne Bay and near shore waters, the Port of Miami has lead the formation of the Port of Miami Environmental Foundation. The Foundation’s objective is to fund meritorious ecological, public access and education projects proposed by environmental agencies and nonprofit groups.

The Port of Miami’s Environmental Communications and Media Relations Program is the main source of information for the public and news media. The program is responsible for the production of publications and informational literature, and the creation and maintenance of the Internet Web site. The program also coordinates outreach campaigns to increase environmental awareness.
