Mangroves provide shoreline protection and habitat for birds, fish and shellfish. Over the years the Port of Miami has committed to the restoration of tidal red mangrove habitat in locations throughout Biscayne Bay and in Biscayne Bay National Park. The Port is now embarking on its most ambitious restoration project to date, the creation of 42 acres of habitat at Oleta River State Park. Port officials expect the project to be completed in 2006.
