Ronald Bladen (American, born Canada, 1918-1988)
The X, 1968
Aluminum, painted
Long-term loan from Miami-Dade Art in Public Places, gift of the J. Patrick Lannan Foundation
Ronald Bladen’s Minimalist construction, The X, stands almost twenty-three feet tall. Due to its large scale, the form demands the viewer experience its powerful presence and consider its heroic proportions. A wooden version of The X was first exhibited in 1967 at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
Bladen is considered by many to be a founding father of Minimalism and is widely recognized for his monumental, geometric constructions.
