The Miami Fin Project: From Swords into Plowshares was officially dedicated on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2003. The installation is composed of twenty-two fins from decommissioned 1960’s nuclear submarines donated by the United States Navy Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Young arranged the fins into an environmental sculpture that refers to a pod of dolphins. The artwork is about peace, recycling, turning weapons into art, and honoring the men and women who served our country during the Cold War.

The installation of this artwork was funded by private and corporate donors from the community and across the nation, in partnership with Miami Dade County Park and Recreation Department and is a gift to the Citizens of Miami Dade County.
