Amazon and Beyond Pavilion
Miami Metrozoo

Inspired by the spirit of discovery, Betancourt’s installation, entitled Still Life Zoo, consists of twenty-five unique sculptures sited throughout the main pathway leading to the Amazon and Beyond pavilion. Executed in Betancourt’s signature “glitzy bravado” style, the boldly colored sculptures depict birds, butterflies, turtles and snakes, among other animals, indigenous to the Amazon region. As Betancourt states, “aside from being profoundly inspired by animals, the natural world, culture, conservation and the relationship between humans and nature, this work reflects and celebrates the light, color and movement of Miami and its culture.”
