Gary Moore

Pharaoh’s Dance, 2006
Sanford and Dolores Ziff Ballet Opera House Plaza

Pharaoh’s Dance was inspired by three very diverse sources - an African King, a1970’s jazz song and the cubist forms of the architecture of the center. With this eclectic mixture of inspiration, Moore has given the southwest corner of the Ballet Opera House a whimsical plaza, serving as a gathering place and area for outdoor performances.

Moore’s plaza expresses his humor and joviality, while at the same time reflecting his devotion to the accessibility of art. This plaza is to be enjoyed by all, from pedestrians who may not be sensitized or exposed to art, to patrons of the Arsht Center, who may visit museums and attend on a regular basis.  Pharaoh’s Dance is a spectacle of dancing colors and abstract shapes, sure to enchant residents of Miami-Dade County and serve as a backdrop for outdoor cultural performances.
